ASTRID LINDGREN dramatised several of her books herself, and during the 1940´s she also wrote a number of other plays directly for the municipal library's children's theatre. Over the years, a number of dramatisations by other authors have been approved by Saltkrakan AB. Nordiska ApS in Copenhagen acts as agent for Saltkrakan AB for theatre rights outside of the German-language area. Verlag für Kindertheater in Hamburg is our agent in Germany, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland. Nordiska ApS and Verlag für Kindertheater have access to complete, authorised theatre manuscripts. Anyone wishing to create their own dramatisation of a work by Astrid Lindgren must apply for approval. All new dramatisations must be checked and approved by Saltkrakan AB. |

Astrid Lindgren had some rules that she considered really important in connection with dramatisations of her works, and we adhere firmly to these. The entire plot in a theatre play must be taken from Astrid Lindgren's story. This means that it is not permissible to add events or characters that are not found in the book. It is not, however, necessary to include everything.
Astrid Lindgren's characters from different works live in different worlds, and never meet. Pippi Longstocking and Emil, for example, can never meet on stage.
The dramatisation should be exclusively directed towards child- ren. Jokes and associations that are aimed over the heads of the children - to an adult public - are not allowed.

Written theatre manuscripts count as literary works and are pro-tected by copyright law. This means that it is forbidden to perform a theatre play in public or to adapt or spread manuscripts without the permission of the owner of the copyright. Anyone wishing to produce an Astrid Lindgren theatre play in public must contact our publisher to acquire permission and conditions. In the German-speaking area (GAS) this is Verlag für Kindertheater, and in all other countries Nordiska ApS.

We like it when Astrid Lindgren's books serve as inspiration in children's development. If a school-class wishes to perform a play by Astrid Lindgren within the class, no permission is required; schools may use the books for internal school use without first seeking permission. But as soon as there is to be some sort of public performance (for example, performing for the parents of the school children), the rights for this must be obtained from Nordiska ApS or Verlag für Kindertheater, respectively. Recording performances on CD or DVD or any other medium is not allowed even for private use.
